Beginning September we had the opportunity of attending a brilliant video mapping event right here, in our home country, Belgium. The occasion? The Charleroi based company Dirty Monitor put up an amazing visual performance to support the show of the Belgian DJ Kid Noize, within the Smoke on The Water festival in Charleroi.

Since its creation in 2004, Dirty Monitor has managed to become a reference in the field of 3D, Mapping, VJing and the performing arts. Over the years, the collective has made a name for itself thanks to its collaboration with some great names from the event sector, and the hard and passionate work from its team, which has been joined by several computer graphics, photography, matte painting and architectural design professionals. Live performances, installations, parties,...Whatever the desired atmosphere, structures or surfaces are, Dirty Monitor offers the audience a unique visual experience.

For the setup at the Smoke on The Water show, the team chose to use the powerful MediaMaster PRO software together with an ArKaos Studio Server, to achieve the complex projection on an imposing building lining the quay of the Sambre river. "What we love about ArKaos is the diversity of codecs that it allows, the ease of use of the Video Mapper - the entire product is fast and simple to use. In this particular circumstance, where three stacks of projectors were used, the simplicity of recognizing the products was exceptionally important. The playlists were easy to access and, despite their length (more than 40 minutes), we haven't noticed any delays. There are a few options that require some special attention, but all in all it's a stable, fast and easy-to-use product.", said Francois Vandermeeren, one of the light designers involved in overseeing this project.
